Civil Protection @ Municipality of Florence with a Drill Exercise: the Flooding of Ema & Greve Rivers

Municipality of Florence's Civil Protection Department organized a drill exercise on 19 May 2018 simulating the flooding of the rivers. The event involved involve the municipalities of Florence, Bagno a Ripoli and Scandicci.

The scenario elaborated on realistic data and was implemented with collaboration with the basin authorities, a land reclamation consortium, the university, the regional functional center and LaMMA. The goal was to test the response time and the related rescue activities of the civil protection system.

The scenario included all phases of a flooding emegency (raising river levels, flooding and a water re-entry) along the Ema and Greve's banks; all within reduced timeframes. It also covers activities like heavy rain, violent overflow, flooding of streets, garages and basements, and dragging away citizens.
