A training course on the topic of “Climate Service for Disaster Prevention” is taking place in Florence, Italy, from 20 November until 01 December 2017. The course is part of the Project Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction training program, that aims at reducing the impacts of natural disasters and climate change on the agricultural sector in West Africa. Its specific objective is to improve the capacity of natural technical services to support sustainable development in response to climate change and its associated risks.
The training course is part of a series of four, conducted in both Italy and Niger with the aim of strengthening the capacities of National Technical Services for disaster risk reduction, through the application of research products and operational tools. The course provides theoretical and practical knowledge on current approaches on detention, monitoring and forecasting on extreme events.
The other three training courses will be on the topics of “Agrometeorological Services for Agriculture and Water Use” (February 2018, Niamey, Niger), “Methodologies for Climate Change Impact Assessment” (June 2018, Florence, Italy) and „Agrometeorological Services for Rainfed Crops” (October 2018, Niamey, Niger).
