The National Research Council is the leading public organisation in Italy with the responsibility to carry out, promote, spread, transfer and improve research in the main sectors of knowledge growth and of its applications to scientific, technological, economic and social development of the Country. To this end, the activities are divided into macro areas of interdisciplinary scientific and technological research, ranging from life sciences to ICT, Social Sciences and Humanities. CNR is distributed all over Italy with its network of more than 100 institutes aiming at promoting a wide diffusion knowledge throughout the national territory and at facilitating contacts and cooperation with industry and academy. The Institute of Legal Information Theory and Techniques’ (CNR-ITTIG) mission is to carry out scientific and technological research on the impact of information and telecommunication technologies on law and law related activity. CNR-ITTIG main activities are:

  • Project scientific and administrative management: CNR-ITTIG is or has been involved in different projects at both national and European level in the field of legal information, providing both scientific contributions and administrative support.
  • Specialized Training: CNR-ITTIG collaborates with Universities in teaching computer science and law in Degree and Master courses as well as PhD courses.
  • Databases and guides: CNR-ITTIG maintains, updates and distributes legal and law-related databases, as DoGi, the most relevant archives of legal literature in Italy.
  • Publishing and technical-scientific service: Editorial activities is crucial for the Institute. Since 1970s, the ‘Informatica e diritto’ journal has been having a relevant scholarly value in the fields of legal information technology and law.
  • Organization of international conferences: CNR-ITTIG periodically organizes conferences and more frequently seminars, workshops and other meetings, where research results are discussed.

Istituto di Biometeorologia (CNR-IBIMET)

http://www.ibimet.cnr.it/

Istituto di Biometeorologia (CNR-IBIMET) is engaged in a wide spectrum of research activities in basic and applied meteorology, climatology, crop yield forecasting systems, remote sensing for ecosystem analysis, socioeconomic development in agriculture and forestry at different scales and over several distinct geographical areas with particular attention to developing countries. More than 30 years of activities and participation in international research and consulting initiatives have enabled IBIMET to address climate change issues through a continuous updating of scientific and technical expertise. Nowadays IBIMET studies, designs and develops methodologies such as satellite remote sensing and GIS (Geographic Information Systems), as well as numerical models that are applied to agricultural crops and ecosystems, and meteorology applied to forecasting systems. IBIMET also conducts research on the ecophysiology and biochemistry of plants and greenhouse gases in agro-ecosystems. In the mid-1990s, following the new agriculture policies of the European Union and the new challenges of globalization that must also be faced by rural areas, the Institute started a new branch of research connected with the dynamics of rural development processes. This research deals with natural ecosystem risk prevention and the sustainable management of agro-environmental systems through strategies to integrate agriculture and the environment, the latter intended not only as a natural but also a social, economic and cultural system. IBIMET is involved in research sectors strongly related to the proposed actions: modelling impact on the health and data management for operational purpose during whether/climate emergencies; land managements; climatology and biometeorology; environmental modelling.
