Maria Angela Biasiotti is a Researcher at CNR- ITTIG. She holds a degree in Law (1999) and holds a PhD in Information Technologies and Law (2008) from the Faculty of Law, Bologna University. In 2001 she started her activity at the Institute of Legal Information Theory and Techniques (CNR-ITTIG). She collaborates also with the European University Institute. From 2009 onwards she is responsible for CNR-ITTIG in the ORAAl project aiming at realizing and online observatory on Food Law financed by the CNR. Since 2012 she is a member of the Ordinatory Committee of the FORESIGHT S&T Project of the National Research Council of Italy. Starting from March 2014 she coordinates the FP7 EVIDENCE project (European Informatics Data Exchange Framework for Courts and Evidence). She collaborates in several other European Projects among which: DEDIPAC, MAPPING, RESPECT, CARE, Caselex project and the NormeinRete project. She combines a robust practical experience in the area of law (she has practised as a lawyer in public law, administrative law and EC law for an Italian leading law firm) with a broad knowledge in the field of ICT and law. Her main research areas involve: legal informatics, computer law, legal information modelling and accessing, and legal information documentation management and dissemination, computer law, digital evidence, data protection. She is the author of many scientific works and contributions presented at international conferences. She organized conferences, workshops and summer schools in her domain of research and activity.

Fabrizio Turchi is the technological director at CNR- ITTIG and holds a degree in Mathematics from the University of Florence. His research activities are the applications of IT technology to legal domain, legal standard and legal drafting, use of the XML technologies to devise legal documents models. He has been designing and developing Web applications, formal parsers to identify parts and structures that exist inside textual documents and natural language processing techniques applied to legal documents for knowledge extraction, such as automated text classification, anonymity processes based on Named Entity Recognition (NER) and for semi-automatic building up of legal ontologies

Pietro Mercatali a director of research at the Institute of Legal Information Theory and Technologies of the Italian National Research Council (CNR-ITTIG) of the Italian National Research Council since 1976.

He works in the fields of legal informatics, legal language and law-making. He is an expert in the electronic processing of legal documents and, in particular, in legimatics, a new discipline for designing and building computer tools for legislative drafting.

He has been part of the working group that drafted the regional legislative drafting manual.

This experience disclosed useful for the working group that developed in 2011 the first version of the “Guide for drafting of administrative acts. Rules and suggestions”.

He works with numerous bodies on developing awareness about and the computer-aided tools at legislative assemblies and, in general, in the public administration in Italy and abroad. Since 1997, he has taught Computer Science Applied to the Public Administration at the Political Science Faculty of Pisa and at the Naval Academy of Livorno.

Sara Conti, graduated in law, received her Master's degree in “Indexing of printed, digital and multimedia documents in a digital environment” at the University of Tor Vergata, in Rome. Since 2010 she is entitled to practice as a lawyer. She worked as expert consultant for companies in the field of Privacy from 2003 to 2012. She has been working at the Institute of Theory and Techniques of Legal Information of CNR (ITTIG) first as a documentalist and from 2012 as legal technologist. Her current research interests deal with indexing techniques in a digital environment, implementation of legal database, strategies for on line legal information retrieval, advanced digital conservation procedures.

Sveva Avveduto is Research Director of the National Research Council - Institute for Research on Population and Social Policies and the Head of the Research Unit on Human Resources and Knowledge Society. Her main research interests concern science and education policy and are focused on studies on higher education and research and particularly on human resources for science and technology, on mobility issues of scientists, engineers and high skilled personnel, gender issues, science and society and social aspects of technology.

Sveva Avveduto is vice-chair of the OECD Group on Research Institutions and Human Resources and is Italian delegate to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, (OECD), Paris, for the activities stemming from the Committee for Scientific and Technological Policy. She chaired the OECD Group on Steering and Funding of Research Institutions from 2004 to 2008. She has been national Expert in many OECD Activities concerning postgraduate training, higher education, women in science, employment and mobility and national coordinator of the Group on Human Resources for Science and Technology preparing the Canberra Manual for the measurement and indicators of HRST for OECD. She has been member of the G7 Group on Public Understanding of Science and Technology, cooperating with the NSF, Washington. At national level she has chaired the CNR Committee for studies on HRST and performed in many research activities in co-operation with University and other research institutions. She has carried out also advising activities, mainly to the Ministry of University and Research in preparing the National Research Plan 2004-06, on ‘Human Capital’ topics and the 2010-13 Plan on Internationalization of Italian Research System. She carries out consultancy activities for the Ministry of University and Research as a member of the Commission on Internationalization of research.

Daniela Luzi is a Researcher at the Institute for Research on Population and Social Policies. Her research has focused on the analysis of the impact of ICTs on information management and communication processes, an area in which she has published articles in peer-reviewed journals. She has been involved in a number of research projects both internally and externally funded.

Lucio Pisacane has a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Rome Sapienza and is a contract researcher at the Institute for Research on Population and Social Policies. He has acquired experience in working at CNR both on sociological topics and on evaluation of European Research Projects.
